Little Details

Sometimes it’s the littlest details that catch our eyes.  Not long after we started spending time at Kenilworth, I noticed there were several different styles of switch plate and outlet covers.  At least 5 different kinds.  So little by little, we have been replacing them with one style.

Last week, I painted the main floor bathroom.  When I took the old switch plate covers off, it suddenly hit me that although they were metallic, the design looked just like the white ones we had been getting as replacements.  I compared the old cover to one in the family room.  Sure enough they were the same size and design!

I’m sure you know what I did next.

Of course!  I spray painted all the old ones that matched our new design with my Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint, which just so happens to exactly match the wall color I picked out.  To keep the paint from getting scratched off too easily, I also finished the covers with Minwax Polycrylic Polyurethane.  You can get it in a spray can or just wipe it on real quickly with a brush.

I left the screws in so they would be the same color.

It might seem a little silly to go to this effort (not that it was extremely difficult)– but those switch plate and outlet covers are expensive!  They really begin to add up at around $6 per cover!  So – just in case you had never thought of it, I’m here to tell you that you can spray paint covers!
